Stones and Ivy

Stone walls with climbing ivy give a timeless beauty to outdoor walls… and indoors. That is if indoors is faux painted. I’ve had the pleasure of creating several faux stone and rock walls over the years. A recent request was to paint a stone wall with climbing ivy look around a niche mural that was created around 20 years ago. The homeowner still loves the original scene but had always wanted it finished with the stone and ivy look. Extra care is taken when painting adjacent to another’s work. In this case, some of the ivy is painted directly onto the original to give a more 3D effect:

The Timeless Beauty of Marble

Since ancient times we have loved marble. Its elegant beauty has graced columns of the Parthenon and Taj Mahal. It is equally embraced in historical buildings and interiors an modern facilities. It is timeless. Of course, there is a bit of a price tag for real marble columns. That’s where faux marbling comes in. Painted correctly, it truly fools the eye and brings the exquisite nature of marble into your home or building.

For a recent series of columns, a faux finish of light marble with warm overtones was created.

A Breath of Fresh Air

There is a space in your home screaming for attention. A canvas waiting to come to life hovers just above your head. Your ceiling! Having a custom sky mural brings life, depth, and a breath o f fresh air to your living space.

A recent bathroom area needed a little lift. The space, although small, now feels open and less cramped thanks to the sky mural above the shower area

Turtle Beach Mural

Turtle Beach Mural

One of the most delightful creatures here in SW Florida is our sea turtles. Thousands of sea turtle nests will hatch in here throughout this summer and fall. Watching them head their way into the Gulf is magical. Because of the popularity of this enchanting flippered little being its motif is used on everything from t shirts, lamps, jewelry, beach towels, and often requested into custom murals.

A recent client had purchased a sea turtle shaped mirror to be hung in the middle of a bedroom wall. Due to its size the mirror would have looked lonely in the middle of the wall. So they decided to have a mural painted and have the mirror incorporated into the scene.

Poolside in Costa Rica

Poolside in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is nestled between Nicaragua and Panama with coastlines of both the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean.  Costa Rica is known as the world’s largest coffee producer and for its stunning natural wonders- like the volcanoes.

I had the pleasure of painting one of the glorious volcanoes in Costa Rica and giving the scene a very personalized twist. The homeowner had enjoyed a lovely vacation down in Costa Rica and wanted a tropical pool with a view of a volcano. The personalized twist was adding in some of the beloved cats and dogs into the scene.

 The scene is painted on the upper wall in the dining room:

Soul Lifting Beach

Soul Lifting Beach

In Southwest Florida, beach scenes are the most frequently requested type of mural.  I’ve had the pleasure of painting them inside and outside. Some of the scenes have been tranquil and serene, often just a gentle blue sky over gentle waters or a sunset over a deep teal ocean. Some have been bursting with color and energy. Quite often there will be a request to do something to personalize the scene. Those requests have ranged from the owners’ pets being in the mural, their grandchildren in the mural, a specific number of shells and birds to represent family members, signs on the beach with the number of miles to their other homes, and in the case of a commercial mural their logo turned into a palm tree. This week I had a first though. A large ship’s helm with scripture verses around it as it centers over a beach. It was absolutely delightful to paint such a meaningful mural for the homeowners. Spending time viewing this beach will lift their spirits and lift their soul.
