Creating A Wallpaper Look With Paint

Ever find something you like but then thought, ”If only it were just a different shade or  had just a bit more color to it would be perfect”? We’ve all had that experience at some point. Maybe it was a blouse, a dress, a fabric ( that happens to me all the time ), or even a wallpaper. In the case of wallpaper, paint and patience can solve your dilemma.

This feature wall in a home office is inspired by a wallpaper the homeowner loved. The wallpaper is no longer being made. That was problem number one. But even if it was the homeowner wanted  another shade added into it . So that was problem number two. The solution was concocted in 3 paint colors. The first step was to paint the background color ( in Rojo Dust SW9006 ). Using a copier, I took the sample wallpaper and created a large section of the repeat to use as a general guide to get the movement of the pattern and traced it on with white graphite. The transferred pattern was then painted in Ancestral Gold SW6407. Of course, two coats would be required to get an opaque look. As the second coat was added I also heathered in New Colonial Yellow SW2853. Adding in the dots was fun. Patience paid off because the now the homeowner’s office feature wall looks like it has been wallpapered:

A Glamorous Dining Room that Shines

Glamour comes in many shades. In this case it’s soft purple hues. But nothing brings the glamour out more than the high sheen of silver metal. The ceiling and wall insets are painted with Euphoric Lilac SW6835 and then heavily layered with silver foil.

The result positively gleams:

The Glorious Sky Above

One of the most amazing and breathtaking beauties of our planet isn’t even on the planet but above it. The view from earth into the atmosphere is a never-ending wonder of color and shapes. The sky can make us feel happy, afraid, inspired, and humble. The Creator made for us an ever-changing palette to enjoy. Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of painting many sky variations but this particular one was such an exciting request. The homeowner collected art by Thomas KinKade, known as the painter of light.

The photo is before the new light fixture is installed. The walls below will feature originals by KinKade. I know the homeowners are thrilled with their ceiling. (I hope Kinkade is looking down as is pleased too)
