Snow Wolves

Snow Wolves

There is so much joy in painting. That’s part of why I love being an artist. Everyday is like a new adventure. Every request and commission are unique. One of the latest is unique, at least for being in SW Florida, because the request was for snow! Yes, SNOW! Actually, the request was for wolves. Wolves are a hot item for teens. My own daughter absolutely adores wolves. Anyone who knows me knows how much I adore animals and wildlife. The mural scene chosen was for 2 wolves that are in a snow scene. The end result is breath taking. Brilliant blues give the snow depth. Deep greens and umber make the tree lines so real you can almost smell the pines. In the center of it all there are 2 majestic creatures.

Sunny Italy

Sunny Italy
One of my biggest bucket list items is to spend a month or more exploring and soaking in the treasures of Italy. At the point, especially in light of the serious pandemic on the globe, painting Italy will have to suffice. A recent client who is (well, had been) a frequent visitor to Italy requested a Tuscan scene to be painted onto the back side of her kitchen cabinet. Not as odd as it sounds. The back side of this particular cabinet is in the center of the home and can be viewed for every angle in all the other areas. Including when you’re outside on the lanai. The back of the cabinet was a raised solid surface with molding. Once painted, the molding creates the illusion that it’s a framed painting. Of course, the proper primer was applied first, and a clear protective coat applied at the end.

Build That Wall

Build That Wall !

No not that wall, silly. The wall I’m referring to is a rustic rock wall for a family game room.

In keeping with the home’s rustic mood complete with sliding barn doors, heavy ceiling beams, and dark wood floor the wall space behind the dry bar area was screaming for a faux finish/ mural. It’s now painted to appear as an old stone wall complete was foliage growing through and over the rocks.

It’s always fun painting rocks because of the mediums you can play around with. Beyond acrylic paints in both heavy bodied and hi flow, for this wall I added in some Lusterstone in grays and bronzes. A hint of Luna on a few and the Faux Effects Rust into each one gave the perfect look and feel. The last step of Van Dyke Brown created the dimensional trick. Of course, a clear coat protects the wall spaces from mishaps during game night.
