You've "Urned" It !

You’ve “Urned” It !

Faux finishing is the perfect way to revive an old piece of pottery, or even a new piece. When the size, style, and function works for your home space but the color isn’t right – change it !

This urn was quite beloved and had traveled through many homes with the owner. It had been left outside and time was beginning to take its toll. Rather than pitch it, it received a scrub, prime, and a bronze/copper metallic faux finish with gold metallic highlights and the rope was painted, well- to look like rope:

Pottery comes in all styles and functions, of course. Cement columns and statues can be faux painted for indoor or outdoor:

While some statues are for aesthetics, others can be for memorializing like this cement bulldog painted to look like the owner's own bulldog for its memorial garden:

And some, serve a practical and official use:

Some statues can be small:

And some can be really big.
Cement water fountain for pool :

Large or small – indoors or outdoors- whatever your need- Swan Studios Inc can faux paint it for you.

Lal’s Roti and Curry LLC

Lal’s Roti and Curry LLC

It’s a taste of the islands! Each year our local cities and counties host festivals featuring the delectable delights from local restaurants. Over the decades I’ve lived here the festivals have expanded because, hey, if you feed them, they will come! Another food expansion that has happened here in SWFL is the increase of food trucks. Each day vendors tantalize your taste buds and lure you in with the scent of everything from chocolate to pizza to tacos. There seems to be a daily increase of the number and variety of local food trucks. No doubt this increase is in response to the explosion of our population and the need to feed the masses without packing them into seated restaurants all thanks to Covid. While Covid has certainly had an effect on our dining experience, some of those effects have been positive. We’ve adapted to change quickly, and food trucks are no longer just hotdogs and pizza slices. A recent addition culinary on wheels is Lal’s Roti and Curry. The owners and I met while I was creating the VidaCann Mural in Cape Coral (if you’re in the area you can’t miss the color explosion at 1411 Cape Coral Pkwy E Cape Coral, Fl) Lal wanted his plain white truck to stand out amongst the fleet of food trucks. He also wanted to avoid the typical photo wrap which here in SWFL quickly fades to an unappetizing pea green color. It’s serendipitous that I had on my “art wish list” to do food illustration. The first half of the food truck mural is now complete and made it’s debut this week:

The serving side features a tropical background and bamboo menu board:

On the hitch side, the background continues along with contact info:

Of course, the most important part of the mural is the menu selection:

You’ll see Lal’s truck at local events and parking lots ( such as the hospital ) Be sure to take a photo and tag Swan Studios Inc and grab one of Lal’s tasty treats.

A New Year- A New Look

A New Year – A New Look

2021 is a wrap! If you’re like me, you’re happy to see that year come to an end. Sure, there were plenty of awesome things to happen in 2021. Painting wise it was spectacular. But there are plenty of things I’m glad to leave behind. No sense dwelling on the past. Let’s look at the bright new year ahead of us. It’s a clean slate so to speak… and speaking of clean slates: today’s focus is just that. A light beachy wood look that expands all throughout the detail work of built-in shelving.

Once upon a time the trend was heavy built- in shelving with dark wood stain details.                                             (Bunny trail: the home featured was built in the early 2000s. Is it just me or does “twenty years ago “feel like it should be the 1980s not the early 2000s?) Anyway, back on track- rather than tear down the shelving, it has now been transformed into the same faux finish treatment that was painted onto the fireplace surround.

For details on the products used to create this airy beach feel click to this article link: ( https://swanstudiosinc.blogspot.com/2021/10/the-science-of-aphrodisiac-faux-finish.html )

You can see in the before photo that more than just the wood finish was changed. Remember those huge dinosaur style televisions? It was replaced with a fireplace:

Joy to the World

Joy to the World !

Happy 2022!  Here’s to a year filled with peace, love, butterflies, twinkling stars, sunbeams and everything bright and colorful. Make it a joyful year! To kick it off, today we’re featuring a fun whimsical novelty side chest that is sure to give you a smile:

What do you do with an odd piece of furniture that’s great for storage and can fit into any space but lacks pizazz?  Make it whimsical! This occasional side chest started out as basic creamy vanilla. The homeowner thought of tossing it out but loved the size since it could fit into almost any room in their home. It’s basic no more! It’s now a conversation piece featuring colorful quirky underwater creatures

Sea Turtles are one of the most beloved creatures here in SW Florida. The edges are painted in a black and white pattern to tie in with other art pieces and dishes in the home:

Colorful jellyfish float along one side of the cabinet. Each foot and trim section is painted in happy colors:

The opposite side of the chest features this cute little guy ( he was inspired by my pet fish, Oscar ) The green seaweed is painted onto all sections including over the feet and trim pieces to give it a comprehensive feel.

Sweet seahorses grace the front doors of the side chest. The top drawer was inspired by an art piece in the home and gives the chest additional whimsy.

There are several wall hung storage cabinets to be hung, This is the first one completed. Each one will be a different color scheme based on which room and are it will be hung. Each one will be bursting with color:

For the knobs on both the side chest and wall cabinet, it was an added bonus that one of the homeowner's hobbies is collecting knobs. That was a delightful discovery! The knobs on the side chest are from her collection. For the knobs on the wall cabinet I painted the knobs and then painted and glued on starfish pieces I found among the knobs:

There are more pieces coming from this fun colorful home. Hopefully the pieces will inspire you to bring some whimsy and quirkiness into your home. Make 2022 burst with color and joy !
