As Soft as a Gentle Breeze

As Soft as a Gentle Breeze

Here in sunny South West Florida, we love to feel a cool gentle breeze whisk through now and then. We especially love it on the days when the humidity is in the upper 90%. Although those moments are rare, the feel can be duplicated in a home’s interiors. Like in the master bath pictured below. The condo rises above the Caloosahatchee River offering endless views of sky and water. The color theme of the interior is crisp, cool, and modern. So, a gentle breeze effect in soft metallic blues was perfect for the master bath ceiling.

Fabulous icicle style shadows fall across the walls when the crystal chandelier is on:

The entry ceiling below is another inspiring gentle breeze metallic ceiling and was featured in a prior article titled "House of Sand and Sea": http://swanstudiosinc.blogspot.com/2015/11/faux-painting-house-of-sand-and-sea.html

The Midas Touch

The Midas Touch

A touch of gold can brighten any day - or in this case an entry way. What started out as four plain white columns placed in the entry hallway, now are dazzling faux marble with just a hint of gold .

The center faux marble section is painted in earth tones. The capital and base are painted in metallic aged gold and brass:

To keep the faux painting protected and to add a polished look, each column received a gloss clear coat:

Columns for both interior and exterior are a common place in SWFL. To see more column faux painting for inspiration for your own home, visit our photo gallery at Swan Studio Inc

Say it with Love

Say it with Love
Words are everything. Our words can uplift each other or hurt each other. Our words have a lasting impression. Write your words down and they will last for generations to come. To quote novelist and playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton:  "The pen is mightier than the sword" (excerpt from his historical play Cardinal Richelieu). So, say all things with love. Write down what you love or better yet display those words on your walls. Your favorite phrases can be framed or even painted onto your homes walls. As faux painter and muralist, I’m often asked to incorporate words in to art work. Most of the time that work is within a home. Occasionally, there are “words of art” requested for other purposes. Like these two adorable phrases used for a couple’s vow renewal. The wedding took place in December while outside temperatures were under 0 degrees. Horse sleigh rides were planned and blankets would be needed for the guests. Anticipating both tears of joy and potential runny noses due to weather, tissues would be needed. These practical accessories were to be displayed with fun loving words labeling their location:

Another home owner has friends over quite often and decided to have her love for sharing moments with her friends written onto the kitchen walls:

If you love travel, have the names of your favorite places displayed on your walls:

A Passion for Purple

A Passion for Purple
“Do things with Passion or Not at All “. That is certainly the mantra of a recent home owner who lives and breathes the color purple. Everything- including clothing- and every room is centered around the color purple. All done is in good taste, however. Violets shades have been mingled with sparkle silver, grays, and whites. Spaces have been opened by removing walls and raising ceilings where ever possible. Due to the constraints of the building, the master bathroom ceiling could only be raised in a small center section of the room. This left the space with a feeling of “Gee-whiz, why did we even bother”.  Never fear- Faux painting to the rescue! We took the Sherwin Williams paint color Izmir Purple of the sidewalls down a few notches to Forever Lilac for the ceiling. Then simply placed a silver foil overlay. The result is stunning. The ceiling now reflects light giving the room an open feeling. An added bonus is the rise reflects the lilac and appears to be painted I a pale shade of lilac. Combined with the new mirrors, lighting, tile work, and seamless glass shower enclosure the room is glorious.
(Side-note: This shade of purple is flattering to almost every skin tone. Be sure to check the color against your skin tone before painting the walls of your dressing area)
