Across the Aegean Sea

Across the Aegean Sea

We all dream of relaxing romantic getaway where the only conflict is deciding which is more beautiful, the expansive clear blue sky or the tranquil blue ocean waters. Not everyone can fly out at a moment’s notice and head across to the Aegean Sea. But you can bring those mythical magical colors into your home. Paradise can be found with a gorgeous faux finish.

This stunning the Dining Room Focal wall and Tray Ceiling received a faux finish treatment of Aegean metallic blues

For a jaw dropping entry way, a deep blue green metallic faux finish was painted into the ceiling dome:

What's Your Name?

What’s Your Name?

Parent’s spend days or months even pouring over lists of baby names. A name defines your life in so many ways. Your name can signify where you come from, who your parents are, or what tribe you’re from. As anyone who has ever walked onto a playground at school can attest, your name can and will be used against you as other children tease you. But what about your business’ name? By now the teasing is over and you’re making your way in the world. Your company’s name is of utmost importance. It can explain what type of business you are which is so important if you rely on walk-in traffic. Your company name can inspire faith for your investors. And it certainly makes a difference in marketing. Perhaps most important of all if you own a brick and mortar location your name is how your customers to find you. But what if your name can’t be seen? That will have a serious impact on your bottom line. Oh sure, everyone has a GPS built into their car now, or a SIRI telling where to turn. But for gracious sakes, drivers need to be looking at the road and not down at a screen. Having the name of your business prominently out there for all to see makes your life easier, helps your business grow, and keeps drivers safe.
I was delighted t help several businesses get their name out there so their client’s can find them. One business had a sign for years but over time our glorious SW Florida sunshine had caused so much damage their sign looked burnt. (Which I suppose it actually is) At first glance it would appear to have graffiti damage when in fact, it was sun damage. Rather than have a new sign created they opted for a safer route and I painted the same image across the front of the building. I say safer route, because we’re also know for tropical storms and this newly painted sign can’t be blown off.

The business location is within a strip complex, so a clearly visible sign is even more important:

Customer’s trying to find this business can now clearly see where it is located:

Once inside, having you name painted on the walls looks fabulous too!

The Quantum Physics of the Current Paint Trend

The Quantum Physics of the Current Paint Trend
Did you know Silver/Grey isn’t even a color? They are shades or tones. Grey is a combination of substances that fully absorb light, and fully reflect. (IE: Black is the absorbs all color, White Reflects all color. Combine Black and White you get Grey )Silver, however, and here’s where it gets really fun- is best explained by Quantum Physics:
The quantum bit of the story tells us that the color of metals such as silver and gold is a direct consequence of the absorption of photons by d electrons. This photon absorption results in d electrons jumping to s orbitals. Typically, and certainly for silver, the 4d→5s transition has a large energy separation requiring ultraviolet photons to enable the transition. Therefore, photons with frequencies in the visible band have insufficient energy to be absorbed. With all visible frequencies reflected, silver has no color of its own: it's reflective, an appearance we refer to as 'silvery'. - . – Physics.StackExchange.com

Of course, the use of Grey and Silver in Faux Finishes is because – ITS PRETTY ! I’ve never had someone concerned about the absorption of photons by d electrons. They want a faux finished wall or ceiling that looks super fantastic. Take a look:

The ceiling was crying out for a faux finish. A Silver Metallic Glaze was the perfect faux finish to bring the vast open room spaces together. It's modern and not overwhelming :

Gray and Silver faux painting is gorgeous on walls too.

Knock It Off !

Knock it Off!

The trend for updating kitchens and bathrooms is still going strong. In the process of having old counter tops ripped out and new counter tops delightfully put in their place, walls get a bit marred. If those walls had wallpaper, the wallpaper definitely won’t survive. Faux finishing can be the perfect solution. Which is just what I did for this client. They loved the mottled golden gleam of the wall-covering. Using that as the guide, a faux finish was painted recreating the pattern and shine. The remaining wallpaper was ripped off and a new ”knock-off “ faux finish painted on.

Here’s a side by side look:
