Its Movie Night!

Everyone enjoys movie night. Even now when most of us stay home during Covid Closures, we turn our family rooms with its big screen flat tv and incredible surround sound into our own theaters.  Hey, at least at home you can wear pajamas, have your hair knotted up, and even run laundry periodically. Home theater has its perks. Still there is something magical about going to the theater with its massive velvet curtains, hearing the flicker of film as it rotates on its spool ( yes I said film- don’t ask my age ), and the aroma of theater popcorn. Watching the silver screen we’re whisked away into worlds and lives beyond ours. This weekend happens to be the 1^st Cape Coral Film Festival. I’ve been involved for years with the Fort Myers Film Festival. Love it when movie life is so close to home. My husband and I are both excited to have short films in the Cape Coral Film Festival. And the rivalry is on since they are in the same short comedic category. His film, Edien, showed last night to a delighted audience. Tonight’s mine, Three Wishes. I have those butterflies of excited nervous tension. Both films are written and directed by Curtis Collins of Three Cs Productions produced along with the wonderful guys at Rayhart Entertainment. They have a major project in the works called Loyal to the Game. Keep an eye out for it. You can catch Bob and Adam Rayhart each week on their podcast “The Rayhart Rundown”

In honor of Cape Coral’s first ever film festival, I’ve compiled various mural works I’ve painted with a very theatrical and movie magic theme:

Dog Days oF Summer

 

Dog Days of Summer

We’ve heard the phrase “Dog Days of Summer” pretty much our whole lives. But exactly what does it mean? I had to look it up, here’s what I found :

 The phrase is actually a reference to the fact that, during this time, the Sun occupies the same region of the sky as Sirius, the brightest star visible from any part of Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. ... They referred to this time as diēs caniculārēs, or “dog days.”

Well, here in SWFL, although the earth has rotated a wee bit and the constellation Canis Major has shifted in the sky, the extreme heat that other states experience for Summer still lingers on. But we love it. And we love our dogs. We have beaches designated for dogs. Restaurants have outdoor dining areas specifically for patrons with dogs. We even have our very own Sheriff fleet of dogs trained to help with rescuing lost children, water safety, healthcare, and how to be safe in general. They’re called Deputy Dogs. Another incredible group is Wolfhounds Legacy. They rescue dogs from kill shelters and pair and train them with a military veteran with PTSD. Their motto is “saving two lives at a time”. If you ever have an opportunity to attend one of their events, please go. You’ll be humbled and have a great time.

I have to admit, I’m a huge fan of our furry friends. It’s always fun when client’s request to have their four- legged children painted into mural work. Today, the Swan Studio Inc art focus is dedicated to the DOGS!

This table and bench set feature illusion art. parchment appears to peal back as a boy and his dog swim up from a watering hole:

Two adorable pets were requested to be painted onto an outdoor fountain. A bit tricky considering the texture and deep divots of the surface. But with a bit of patience, the family dachshund and beagle appear to seek shade under the tree fountain:

Client's purchased a home with an existing mural painted in sepia tones. I was hired to add their 3 golden retrievers and golden doodle into the mural :

When their beloved bulldog passed away, the client requested a statue be painted to look like their sweet doggie:

 

This breathtaking scene was painted on a teen's bedroom wall :

I'm pretty sure dogs are angels 

put on earth to make us always feel loved:

Back to School

A Tropical Guest House

A Tropical Guest House

Everyone needs a tropical get-away. A place to relax, unwind, and get into the tropical island vibe. Here’s a fun idea for giving your guest room (or, in this case) guest house a fun tropical feel for when friends and family come for a visit:

In place of a headboard, the main wall now features a colorful and vibrant mural featuring tromp l’oeil plantation shutters painted to reveal a sunset beach with island bungalows:

The entire wall is mural painted allowing for change of furnishings in the future:

Star lights are painted strung through the palm trees. Now guests can sleep under the stars:

That Island Beachy Vibe

That Island Beachy Vibe

SW Florida is known for its quaint quirky colorful island beach galleries and boutiques.  You can find everything from kitchen towels and accessories to clothing, luggage, wall sculptures, and nick-nacks all in island beach colors and motifs. It’s fun and happy. That happy vibe is exactly why people flock here in the thousands. Some for a quick get away from the doldrums of life, some for a second home sanctuary, and others decide to permanently reside here in paradise.

The continuing expansion of privacy poolside murals has this week’s mural viewpoint embracing the colorful quirky island beach vibe. This time a door to a garage is incorporated. The door is primed so the paints adhere properly. Exterior latex paint is the primary product type used. The wall received glorious sunshine after high noon. The style of the scene is more sketch than highly detailed, so I only used a minimal amount of exterior acrylics. The result is fun, happy, and oh so island beach vibe:

 

The mural features some of the most popular themes: colorful beach house, palm trees, and Christmas Lights ( or Fairy Lights ). Yes, we keep them up all year long around here. because its fun! and happy ! and magical !
