Peace and Tranquility

Peace and Tranquility

We all need those moments when we are left alone to our own thoughts. We need a time to reflect, reminisce, think over an upcoming decision, or perhaps just not think at all. The world is full of noise and chaos. Keep the television on too long and you begin to think the human species is doomed and the planet will end any second now. Truth is- we create that chaos. The world itself is quiet, peaceful, and breath taking. We have an entire universe to enjoy. Its important to find a place to be calm and tranquil. For those blessed to live here SW Florida, that place is often on the water. For some, the open Gulf Water is their happy place. For others, the still backwaters are their preferred sanctuary, whether natural or man-made. That’s my dad’s favorite place. He grew up fishing. His fishing shed is overflowing with every lure and pole imaginable. And don’t get mom started on the fleet of boats he maintains. But it makes him happy.  In globe full of turmoil, with buckets full of memories good or bad, he’s found his place to rest and reflect. A place of tranquility.

Recently commissioned for an upcoming retirement community that focuses on this very theme, this piece is titled “Tranquility”. It depicts a sole fisherman enjoying a quiet moment wrapped in the beauty and majesty of the sky as it reflects into calm and peaceful waters.

A Rustic Farmhouse Door

A Rustic Farmhouse Door

Everything old is new again. If you’re transitioning the kitchen to a fresh farmhouse-feel, a great starting point is the pantry door. This pantry door was transformed with a rustic faux finish. Faux painting can offer the look you crave with a much more affordable price tag than purchasing a new door.

The base color on this particular creation is SW6241 Celery. The aged look was created with a mixture of Faux Effects red/blue/ochre/ deep blue/ a pinch of black and clear glaze until the mix was the right shade of umber. To seal the effect, the door is painted with CV500 UV Dull Urethane.

2022 Congressional Art Competition FL19 with Byron Donalds

The Competition was fierce. I'm honored to have been selected to judge the High School 2022 Congressional Art Competition for FL 19. The first place winner was announced by Congressman Byron Donalds. Their piece will be hung in the Congressional Walkway for 1 year and they move on to the 4K SCAD scholarship competition. It took the judges a long time as we discussed, debated, and scored the wonderful works by our Florida Highschool students. Our winner is a 12th grader with a painting titled " Blended Family". 2nd runner up is titled "Picnic". Thank you to my wonderful husband for taking photos. As you can see he captured the heated debate amongst the 3 judges : Jackie, Rich, and myself.
