Underwater Bungee Exercise Mural

Underwater Bungee Exercise Mural

This super fun underwater mural is from the series of custom painted exercise murals for Astro-Durance. Each mural in series is based on the feeling of buoyancy and features their famous bungee cord system. Their system takes the stress off the body for a healthier way to exercise. I’ve personally be able to witness the progress of some of their clients as I painted the mural series. Nothing short of astonishing! The rehabilitation of people wheelchair bound to mobility is both humbling and inspiring.

Underwater murals are a popular request here in SW Florida. But to date, this is the most unique one I’ve ever seen with a diver on a bungee cord, an Octopus guarding the treasure chest of bungee cords, and a mermaid trying out their latest invention- the arm hula-hoops!  (Arm Hula-hoops may sound easy but these have a center weight and within a few twirls you’ll discover these aren’t your mama’s hula-hoops but rather an incredible way to get rid of batwings):

All sorts of fun underwater creatures and treasures can be seen in the mural:

The underwater mural was displayed down the hallway of one of their main locations:

The first mural in the series can be seen in the previous blog:Be a Flamingo

The Outerspace mural from the series can be seen at: Paint the Universe

Getting in Perfect Beach Form Shape with Planking

Getting in Perfect Beach Form Shape with Planking

Everyone wants to look their best when going to the beach. In today’s case, the beach is inside and so are the planks. Expanding the home’s life is a beach theme, the walls that separate the kitchen from the lounge area are painted as if they are time and weather worn wood planks.

The walls started out typical off-white. The first step of the transformation was to paint the wall a faux finish cherry-stained wood. Although most of the wood look would end up covered in the next several steps, it helps to create the realistic feel. The second step was a cream-colored paint with a Crackle Mate mixture. This will subtly crack and leave the base faux finish slightly exposed. A third step adds a slightly lighter shade than the cream-colored paint. Here I used Dove white. Some of the Dove white was mixed with the Crackle Mate and some mixed with drywall fill. To keep up the illusion of wood planks both step 2 and 3 were troweled on in horizontal strokes. Once dried, lines were painted on, The final step was to protect the faux finish in a polycrylic matt clear top coat.

Back to School Fish

Back to School Fish

The kiddos are heading back to school this week. I had the fun of creating another mural in a school cafeteria. This one was painted on the wall space just under the room’s central stage. The width expands the entire stage front. Video of it coming soon. But for now, here are photos that will greet the kids as they assemble for general meetings, school plays, and of course, lunchtime:
