A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

The tin ceiling look is hot right.  There are both the real tin ceiling tiles and the plastic fake tin ceiling tiles...Or… instead of having the trim molding removed and replaced during the process, there is the option of a faux finish tin ceiling. It’s a multi- step process and you’ll be sure to get a great shoulder work out. The end result is stunning. (No cats were harmed in the process. The home-owner’s gorgeous ball of fur was more interested in playing with paper balls and the painter’s tape)

Tile lines were created by measuring the grid and then taping either side:

Next the stencil circles are applied followed by the smaller intricate pattern stencils.

For this lighter shade of tin, I used Valspar color Bay Waves with a light silver glaze on top:

Women’s History Month

March 2021 is Women’s history month. Women have blazed trails in every aspect of our lives from social reform, politics, the arts, philosophy, science, aeronautics, medicine, education, and the list goes on. To honor the strength of women and their courage to take life by the horns, we’re highlighting an art piece created for just that purpose.

Rosie the Riveter

Rosie the riveter is a plural allegorical icon of World War II. She represents the women who stepped in and filled the void in factories and shipyards as the men went off to war. She’s at once feminine, American spirit, strength, endurance, and the broker of a new horizon which put women in the economic force of the United States.

To all the Rosies- we salute you and thank you.

Living on the Edge

Living on the Edge

Usually “Living on the Edge” would mean living a life at risk, putting yourself in danger. In this case, however, it’s just the opposite. Living on the edge for this home is enjoying a recently installed hot tub complete with cascading water into the home’s pool. The pool placement literally is at the edge of the exterior foundation. And, of course, there is the now famous privacy wall to shield the homeowners from the outside world and creating a private sanctuary. A privacy screaming for a custom mural. Creating the custom was quite literally the original definition of living on the edge. But no worries, a proper planking system allowed the mural to be painted with ease.  (But just in case, I did pack a swimsuit)
