Bumping up the Curb Appeal

I gladly admit I’m addicted to home improvement shows both for indoors and outdoors. Seems a lot of people all, after all there are entire networks dedicated to just that. But even if you have never watched a single episode, you still know how important curb appeal is to a property. Curb appeal can make or break a sale of a property. So it’s now wonder I’m often requested to faux paint on the exterior to elevate the surfaces to something grand in marble or wood.  Garage doors look absolutely yummy when painted to give the appearance of wood. In most cases the garage doors start out plain white or beige tone. This next set of 6 doors, however, started out previously faux painted but had become chalky. Additional steps are required to prep the surfaces when this happens. In the case below the doors were first washed down, layers that were bubbled up were removed, the doors were sanded, and rewashed with denatured alcohol before beginning the first steps of the new finish. If your garage door is in good condition, you can start with a good alcohol rub down before having primer painted on. Living in the gloriously brilliant Southwest Florida sunshine and humidity it is imperative to have the proper exterior paints and mediums to create the wood looks. The wrong paints become…you guessed it: Chalky. The right paints become -FABULOUS:
