Mural Painting: Cowabunga Dude!

Mural Painting: Cowabunga Dude!

It’s only fair that we devote a little bit of time to that adorable creature – the Turtle. After all, we’ve devoted art blogs to dogs, cats, and birds. So today is all about turtles. I love turtles! I have what I call a herd of them at my home on “Baker’s Pond”. Every evening my husband and I visit with our buddies and they’ve gotten to know our voices and many swim right up to us. We’ve given most of them names based on how they act or look. A few examples: “Chip” is the name of a very large turtle, so named because his shell has a chip missing. One turtle is slower than the rest, so we call him “Old Man”. We have a turtle named “Red” because his shell has a reddish tint. And so on, but you get the idea – I love turtles! So I’m always delighted when I’m asked to incorporate these “lizards on the half shell” into mural creations.

These delightful characters were requested for the kid’s bathroom. Many years later after the children had grown and moved on to college, they insisted their parents not paint over them so they could enjoy them when they visited home:

Often when painting a mural I like to put in hidden treasures. These little cuties are all comfy and basking in sunshine in a guest room’s tropical mural:
