Faux Painting: It’s a GEM!!!

There is no doubt I’m totally crazy for gemstones! What girl isn’t? Granted my favorites are Diamonds (duh! They are a girl’s BFF after all) and Amethyst (my glorious purple colored birthstone). But even more than that, at one point in my educational career I considered going into the study of Gemology. I’m sure this fascination was fueled from my childhood in Europe and visiting King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein Castle ( http://www.exploring-castles.com/neuschwanstein_castle_germany.html) and the sliding down into the earth at the Berchtesgarden Salt Mines ( http://www.salzbergwerk.de/en). But the beauty of being an artist is you can enjoy all avenues of study and paint all the amazing beautiful things this earth has to offer- even GEMSTONES!

In a prior article titled “Home Is Where the Hearth Is” (http://swanstudiosinc.blogspot.com/2015/04/faux-painting-home-is-where-hearth-is.html ) I showed you a home with a stark white fake brick fireplace and hearth surround that was faux painted to look like real brick along with faux marble mantle and hearth and faux copper metallic niches flanking either side. Part of the home’s transformation this year was to paint the entry and hallway niches that would then hold artwork and urns. Rather than repeat the faux copper metallic into these niches, a complimentary faux was painted – RED JASPER! It is totally stunning! Take a look:

Gemstones can be faux painted onto  variety of areas to accent you home.

Granite can be faux finished onto counter tops, tables, and furniture:

Of course, Gemstones can be faux finished into any array of glorious colors.
