This weekend has been incredible. One of the most precious little beings was born. Sweet little Liam arrived totally healthy and absolutely perfect. He’s already full of wonder of the world around him. In honor of my great nephew’s entrance, I’m posting art pieces of done of God’s beautiful tiny humans. (Liam’s painting is coming soon)

Classic Winnie the Pooh Mural

Classic Winnie the Pooh Mural

Everyone loves Winnie the Pooh and Piglet and all the delightful characters that reside in the “Hundred Acre Wood “. It was such a joy to paint this classic Winnie the Pooh mural for the homeowner’s nursery. The baby arrives soon and the room is all ready for him. 

The background color was already painted by the expectant parents. In order to have the character colors pop, each image was drawn onto the wall and filled in with white acrylic. Then the images were painted in their proper color.

Once complete, Modern Masters clear coat in Satin was painted on to seal the images and allow for little hands to touch the wall without damaging the mural.

Silver Glaze Faux Finish

Sometimes the simplest of finishes create the most impact. For this homeowner’s guest bath, a faux finish of silver glaze was applied to the walls. It gives the space character, compliments their art piece, and doesn’t overwhelm the room.  Instead, the faux painting makes the room elegant and refined:

Silver Foil on Teal Faux Finish

              When you crave glamour, every space in your home needs something special. Even the tiniest of spaces. This previously plain boring white walled toilet closet now boldly shows off the homeowner's flare and love of the color tropical teal. 

The base color is Sherwin Willaims SW6487. The silver foil is crinkled before applying to the smooth walls. And a gloss clear coat applied to seal the finish.

Glam and Groovy Foil Faux Wall Finish

Every overnight guest should feel welcome. This tropical casita, created especially for the homeowner’s family and friends, delivers privacy, pampering, and oodles of glamour.

The wall across from the custom murphy bed needed something unique. The faux finish is inspired by the oversized mirror frame that flanks the wall.

 

The process was multi step. Using two different tones of metallic paint ( a silver and a taupe), The base was painted on using a spouncing motion with oversized chip brushes. Allow the paint to dry overnight. The next step is to use a small angle art brush the size you want the width of the stripes to be with Wunda Sizing.  These stripes were to be irregular, sort of wavy but not too wavy. Then silver foil is aggressively rubbed on. The Wunda sizing can vary in its time to become “tacky” based on the environment your in. Since this was across the whole wall, I worked the stripes in batches. Once all the stripes are foiled, let everything dry fully. Overnight if possible. The last step is a clear coat. I used Master Clear Coat in Gloss.

Artistic Wall Finish

The primary room should be a joy to enter. It's the first thing you see when you wake each day and the last thing you see when you lay down to sleep each night. The primary room should make your heart happy. Most home typically hang a piece of artwork over the headboard. But the headboard wall can do so much. Even the simplest art piece can become a masterpiece with the right wall finish. Go beyond just paint color and texture. Here's a wonderful example:

An art piece from a big box store was lost on a plain wall. I created the piece's background finish and texture to expand the height and width of the wall. Now the bedroom is a showstopper:

Although the lower portion just peaks out from behind the nightstands, its impact is huge. It gives a well curated look.

And the wall hanging now has a true sense of purpose.

Florida Zen

The outdoor areas of our homes are a sanctuary. Living in SW Florida means spending sacred time outside on our lanais and lounging in the pool. For privacy, walls typically flank several if not all the sides around the pool. To keep the space from feeling sterile, homeowners choose to have custom murals painted for a tranquil view. A recent homeowner wanted the poolside courtyard to have a Zen vibe.  The walls are now painted with bamboo, foliage from around the home’s landscaping, a few colorful finches, and their own pets sitting amongst the plants. Their yard sculptures sit in front of mural. The over all effect is Florida Zen.
