Abstract Painting "Tie-Dye" For

As an artist will live for those moments when a client truly appreciates art. A recent client was referred to me because one of my specialties is understanding color selection. They had run into a  problem of their gorgeous SWFL home having the makings of our beloved Tuscan colors, yet their own personal taste is much more contemporary. Sometimes we end up having the floors replaced and the kitchen and baths made over. In this case, they weren't ready to take that major plunge. When I arrived to view the home there were blocks of deep dark colors sporadically painted in the main area as they had tried to find a main color to paint throughout. The colors themselves were nice, but not what was needed to pull the home together into the show stopper it could be. Their art collection in their home was modern, abstract, and fabulously punched with jolting colors. My heart I said "JOY"!!! Over the next few weeks I'll give you some peeks into this amazing artistic space that is now one part home- one part abstract art gallery. They now have a home they enjoy and can beautifully entertain their guests.

The Master Bedroom:

This Abstract creation was inspired from the urban art collection and the decorative pillows. The painting s carried over up onto the master ceiling inset. Now they sleep inside their art work.

When the bedroom door is open the headboard wall and ceiling of the master suite can be viewed from the main portion of the home. But as I said earlier- today is just a sneak peek...stay tuned...

Wine "Cellar" Improves with Age

Wine "Cellar"  Improves with Age
Wine improves with age or, in this case, the wine cellar does. The wine cellar is a luxury room in our affluent neighborhoods. As a faux artist and muralist, I’m often asked to create wall finishes in these much-cherished quarters. Wine enthusiasts lavish time and money on their collections and want the cellar walls themselves to show just as much love. This is especially true for the walls that are either in view due to the clear glass doors that allow a peek at the treasures beyond or walls that encompass a seating area to enjoy a glass of wine. A home owners quite “view-able” wine cellar recently required having the ceiling are lifted and new air control put in. These changes, of course effected the walls, which in turn effected the wall finish. Ah, the never-ending challenge of faux artists- to come behind another artist no longer in the area or business and having to duplicate without knowing what product was used or what formula was mixed. Challenge accepted! The end result; beautiful. In fact, even better than before. I like to think it is due to my artistic skills... but I’ll share that glory with the additional wine racks added.

Dazzling Glitter Effects

Dazzling Glitter Effects
You can never have too much glitter!  Adding sparkle to everyday items transforms them from ho-hum to ultra-glamorous. At Swan Studios Inc. we’ve been adding sparkle to wall faux finishes with mica chips and glitter. Now we’ve branched out to other home and art objects. The items have become so popular that we’ve given them their own title “Glitterazzi”.
A jewelry armoire literally sparkles with a dazzling glitter faux finish:

The glitter faux finish is sealed with a high gloss urethane for durability.

Next week we'll show you how to enjoy the custom "Gllite your favorite fragrance in a "sparkling" new way.

Chalk it up to Laundry

Chalk it up to Laundry
The Laundry Room- that mysterious land where clothes magically become clean, fold, and ironed.  It’s also known as the universal black hole where socks disappear never to be seen again (the current scientific theory is they do return, but come back through the kitchen as Tupperware lids). The Laundry Room is also the location where your favorite silk shirt shrinks yet no one remembers seeing it go in the load of towels in the dryer. If you’ve ever seen some of my social media posts, then you’ve seen the special load of cleaning rags that transformed into a pretty shade of pink. (See photo at bottom of page).
We spend a lot of time in the laundry even if it’s only to rotate the loads from one machine to another. The Laundry Room is often used as the home’s entry since most home owners now enter their house through the garage. So, you might as well make it attractive. Have your favorite laundry quote painted onto the walls. Or if you love vintage, have a mural of vintage washing soap painted.  Using faux chalk paints I created this fun way to perk up the laundry room and to remember what the care labels mean:

As Soft as a Gentle Breeze

As Soft as a Gentle Breeze

Here in sunny South West Florida, we love to feel a cool gentle breeze whisk through now and then. We especially love it on the days when the humidity is in the upper 90%. Although those moments are rare, the feel can be duplicated in a home’s interiors. Like in the master bath pictured below. The condo rises above the Caloosahatchee River offering endless views of sky and water. The color theme of the interior is crisp, cool, and modern. So, a gentle breeze effect in soft metallic blues was perfect for the master bath ceiling.

Fabulous icicle style shadows fall across the walls when the crystal chandelier is on:

The entry ceiling below is another inspiring gentle breeze metallic ceiling and was featured in a prior article titled "House of Sand and Sea": http://swanstudiosinc.blogspot.com/2015/11/faux-painting-house-of-sand-and-sea.html

The Midas Touch

The Midas Touch

A touch of gold can brighten any day - or in this case an entry way. What started out as four plain white columns placed in the entry hallway, now are dazzling faux marble with just a hint of gold .

The center faux marble section is painted in earth tones. The capital and base are painted in metallic aged gold and brass:

To keep the faux painting protected and to add a polished look, each column received a gloss clear coat:

Columns for both interior and exterior are a common place in SWFL. To see more column faux painting for inspiration for your own home, visit our photo gallery at Swan Studio Inc

Say it with Love

Say it with Love
Words are everything. Our words can uplift each other or hurt each other. Our words have a lasting impression. Write your words down and they will last for generations to come. To quote novelist and playwright Edward Bulwer-Lytton:  "The pen is mightier than the sword" (excerpt from his historical play Cardinal Richelieu). So, say all things with love. Write down what you love or better yet display those words on your walls. Your favorite phrases can be framed or even painted onto your homes walls. As faux painter and muralist, I’m often asked to incorporate words in to art work. Most of the time that work is within a home. Occasionally, there are “words of art” requested for other purposes. Like these two adorable phrases used for a couple’s vow renewal. The wedding took place in December while outside temperatures were under 0 degrees. Horse sleigh rides were planned and blankets would be needed for the guests. Anticipating both tears of joy and potential runny noses due to weather, tissues would be needed. These practical accessories were to be displayed with fun loving words labeling their location:

Another home owner has friends over quite often and decided to have her love for sharing moments with her friends written onto the kitchen walls:

If you love travel, have the names of your favorite places displayed on your walls:
