Getting in Perfect Beach
Form Shape with Planking
Everyone wants to
look their best when going to the beach. In today’s case, the beach is inside
and so are the planks. Expanding the home’s life is a beach theme, the walls
that separate the kitchen from the lounge area are painted as if they are time
and weather worn wood planks.
The walls started out
typical off-white. The first step of the transformation was to paint the wall a
faux finish cherry-stained wood. Although most of the wood look would end up covered
in the next several steps, it helps to create the realistic feel. The second
step was a cream-colored paint with a Crackle Mate mixture. This will subtly
crack and leave the base faux finish slightly exposed. A third step adds a
slightly lighter shade than the cream-colored paint. Here I used Dove white.
Some of the Dove white was mixed with the Crackle Mate and some mixed with
drywall fill. To keep up the illusion of wood planks both step 2 and 3 were
troweled on in horizontal strokes. Once dried, lines
were painted on, The final step was to protect the faux finish in a polycrylic
matt clear top coat.
