Coastal Cottage Faux Finish
Nothing beats a day
at the beach! Even if that day has to be spent indoors. Might as well bring the
outdoors into the Indoors with some fabulous fun “beachy” feel furnishings. You
don’t even have to buy new furniture. Re- purposing your own furniture pieces
is both economical and adds to the whimsy of creating a coastal oasis.
For this home’s interior, which is literally mere steps away from our gorgeous gulf coast shoreline, the owner’s wood hutch is transformed to bring the feel of blue skies and salty air indoors.
A light sanding removes
the clear coat off the existing finish. A primer assures the grip of the new
color ( I usually use Bulls Eye 1-2-3 ) The home’s door had been painted with
SW6811 Honorable Blue. To keep consistency, the same color was applied to the
hutch. Next, 2 coats of white wash were applied.
Then for a time and weather beaten feel, a little more sanding was done along the edges and corners.
The piece will be
used frequently and since our air done here in sunny southwest Florida is
humid, a hard clear coat was a must. In this case, I used CV500 UV Urethane Dull.
