Spiffing Up: The Sun
War Saga
While we all wait,
hope, and pray for peace world-wide, here in SW Florida we are in a constant
battle with a force that is both are greatest asset and greatest enemy
simultaneously- the SUN. Throngs of people flood into our state continuously to
enjoy our gorgeous weather and bask in our glorious sun. And while it grants a
fabulous tan and healthy skin glow the sun also drains and fades out colors on
EVERYTHING- including our homes’ exteriors. Those expensive sidelights you so
painfully selected- they’ll fade out within 1 to 2 years. That cabinet you felt
so clever in selecting to keep your pool supplies organized- it’s a goner for
sure. Your “just had to have it “ cutesy lawn ornament- forget it-it’s toasted.
But never fear your faux artist is here!!!!
The average exterior of a home is painted every 7 to 10
years- supposedly. While it’s true that exterior paints have come a long way
and a good quality paint can technically last 15 years, the fact is to keep
things looking sharp you’ll need to repaint more often here in SW Florida. Even if you’ve made sure to keep that lovely
green mold off your walls (Thank you very much “Humidity”). Or even if you have
been fortunate enough not to have your lower portion of your home have rusty
discoloration creeping up it. This is due to oxidized rebar now creeping up
through the cracks in the foundation either from improperly poured concrete foundation
or thanks to our ever shifting shell bed soil. JOY! -NOT ! Even if none of these things happened to you
or maybe they did and you re-painted to keep things fresh and color trendy.
There are still other bits that need looking after.
Exterior Houselights:
These side lights were severely weather faded. Now they gleam with a brilliant metallic faux finish:
Sun, wind, rain, and humidity took its toll on these exterior home lights. A silver metallic faux finish brings them back to life:
This PVC lanai cabinet had been sun faded and discolored from humidity. Now it boasts a wood grain faux finish and a tough clear coat.
