Faux Finishing: “What
Can Brown Do For You”?
Companies put some serious dollars into coming
up with catchy campaign slogans. Why? Because a catchy phrase helps you identify,
remember, and relate to their products so that you buy them. And the best
phrases become enveloped into our everyday vocabulary. Admit it, you have
repeatedly used the Verizon Wireless slogan ….”Can You Hear Me Now”? We use
that for everything. How many remember the days of the now historically famous “Where’s
the Beef”? Or Life Alert’s “I’ve Fallen and I Can’t Get Up”? Right now Frosted
Flakes is promoting their “Flakes for Fuel, Frosting for Fun campaign”, but
come on… we all know their best phrase was Tony the Tiger uttering “They’re
G-r-r-reat”! Although UPS retired their campaign slogan “What Can Brown Do For
You?” in 2010, every time the UPS truck comes down my road that phrase pops
into my head. So good job UPS! ( to

The slogan "What Can Brown Do For You"? popped into my head while I was faux painting for a client based on ...you guessed it- the color brown. The home's interior was warm and tropical. They wanted their entry way to be a stunning feature as guests entered their home , as all good entries should be!
The entry walls are treated with a base of buttery cream topped with a brown glaze treatment. Then I painted on an overlay of tropical foliage using browns and highlighted in copper and bronze. The foliage shapes where derived from the client's wood carved mirror frame.
Close-Ups of the foliage:
The foliage was
carried onto the archway as you enter into the living area:
The soaring entry
ceiling is painted in deep brown metallic with glints of bronze, copper, and
golds:
( Once the newly
ordered chandelier is in place, I’ll post up a new photo of the ceiling )
Post script: 12-15-2015: Entry light is now up and is gorgeous! Here's the ceiling view with chandelier on and with chandelier off:
