Double Take
Hurricane Ian did so
much damage to SW Florida that a year later we’re still putting the pieces back
together. Once roofs are repaired and walls rebuilt they of course have to
repainted. That includes previously faux painted surfaces of walls and
ceilings. This is the time the homeowner may decide to go with a completely new
look or as in today’s case have the faux finish look repeated since it suits
the home or room so well. Fortunately, the homeowner was wise and had a record
of the colors used. You’d be amazed how many people have no idea what was used
in their own home. Always ask your artist what colors were used and keep
records of it. You never know when it will comes in handy.
To recreate the look
: Base color is OC-8 in satin finish. Second step was a 50/50 glaze mix of a
scanned color ( almost a deep brown mushroom ). Third step was to re-
glaze with
a 505/50 glaze mix of Modern Master Silver Metallic.

The Three Bears
I’m a huge fan of
fairytales and nursery rhymes. One of my most cherished books as a child was the
junior Britannica volume containing fairy tales. I would drag that book around
every day asking my mother to read to me. She couldn’t miss a word because
although I couldn’t read at the time, I had memorized every story.
Currently I have an ongoing project of fairy tale photoshoots. The ones currently under construction have some more elaborate set requirements. For instance, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. The budget doesn’t allow for 3 real bears and trainers. Not to mention, of course, the sheer fear factor of having 3 live bears. ( I prefer NOT to be eaten , thank you ). Then it occurred to me “AHA, I can paint the 3 Bears”. Painting is my first artistic love and those that follow my art adventures know that I paint murals on entire sides of building and in homes, as well as commissioned canvas pieces. So for the Goldie Locks set there is now a “family portrait” of the Three Bears. It makes the little girl in me giddy, and I can’t wait for “Goldie Locks” to show up for her photo session. I think she will be equally delighted.

Snow in Florida
To say it’s been hot
this year would be a massive understatement. Here in SW Florida, we’ve hovered
in the mid to upper 90’s in what feels like forever. Then you add the heat
index ( side note: I feel truly sorry for the person advising on that ) and it
puts into the 100s with overheating warnings. Our humidity can be suffocating
and in my opinion it feels like a million degrees. But it’s still paradise here
and we never have to shovel snow. Although in the past few weeks I’ve had
several people declare they would welcome snow.
As a muralist in Florida chances are slim to ever get the chance to paint a snow scene. I was thrilled when this wolf mural scene was requested because it was a snow scene! Yep snow right here in Florida. It was fun to paint and even better; it was indoors. So that meant painting in glorious air conditioning! ( My God bless the man who invented air conditioning! )
The Glory of the
Sunset Sky
The sky at sunset in
SW Florida has to be one of the most spectacular views on earth. At sunset the
sky radiates in bursts on yellow , orange, magenta, cyan, and violet. True our
daytime sky is glorious and almost always
a bright baby blue with perfect fluffy white clouds. But it pales in comparison
to our evening sky. So, it is no surprise when I’m commissioned to paint a
beach scene mural that the request is for the sky to be at sunset.

Back To School
It's that time of year again! All the kiddos are headed back to the classroom. Swan Studios Inc wishes all of the students a blessed and prosperous year of learning, achieving, and growing friendships. In celebration of this week's commencements here's a look at some of the school murals painted down local school hallways and rooms.

Serenity Lotus
Our homes are our
sanctuary. Our homes are a place for peace, love, tranquility, and often an
escape form a maddening world. Artwork in the home plays a large role in
reflecting the inner peace
we’re striving to
achieve. Perhaps the peace comes from artwork depicting nature for someone
trapped daily in an office setting. Or the artwork is bursting with color to
escape the dull gray work.
Whatever the goal or
reason it’s always a joy to help clients achieve their artwork desires.
A client in the
process of updating her home on an incredible property in Manasota Key is
remodeling a lounge area into a reading room.
Her love for the lotus flower, sometimes referred to as the water lily,
and her collection of Asian art pieces was the launching pad for a commissioned
painting for the room. The request for the art piece was to combine
Impressionism and Realism, the tranquility of water, and the pink lotus flower.
The painting titled” Serenity Lotus” is on stretched canvas 30” x 30” with the images painted first in acrylics and then troweled in clear plaster. The result is gentle, peaceful, and serene:
