( http://www.swanstudio.net/ ), that’s what you do! Recently a client requested I faux finish a bust of Mozart to conceal the effects after he was “reassembled” from a fall. Wolfgang received a treatment of several shades of gold, antique glaze, and a clear top coat.

Faux Finish isn't just reserved for musical prodigies.  Below is a series of statues given a light marbleized treatment. The statues after receiving a clear top coat where used around the clients outdoor garden and pool.

Faux Finish & Murals on the Ceiling: The Sky Is the Limit

Look up. What do you see? If you’re outside you see a glorious infinite palette of blue. The blues range from barely there to deep midnight black.  Sometimes the palette is accessorized with puffs of white and at other sometimes bursting with orange, reds, violets, or even shades of sage and green. However, if you’re inside chances are you are staring at a flat white ceiling.

As a faux artist and muralist I see the ceiling as a canvas itching for someone to notice it. Having the sky painted on is a marvelous answer and gives the room, well…an open feeling. Even if your room doesn't have soaring ceiling heights, the right shade of sky makes room feel open.

The above ceiling is painted in 3 shades of blue and white on an 8 ft. height ceiling.

Heavy cloud effects in white, cream, and sage over a deep Mallard Blue create an after the rain feel.

Festivities were held at the Edison in Fort Myers (http://www.edisonfl.com/)  While enjoying cocktails and hors d'oeuvres DJ Carlos Velaquez of New Beginnings Events ( http://www.fl-nbedj.com/ ) spun tunes.

Faux Finish: Re-Purposing Furniture& Preserving Childhood Memories

Painting a Faux Finish or even painting mural work onto an old piece of furniture is a great way bring new life into a piece that would otherwise be discarded. It also creates a conversation piece to a room.

Here are just a few samples of Re-Purposed furniture I've created over the years:

A large brown wooden table now becomes an ample size desk. The top is painted in metallic gold and tiger stripes and the legs are distressed in black. Thick glass is custom cut to fit the top to protect the surface and is also used to insert cherished photos.

A flea market find credenza becomes a pre-teen’s dresser painted to mimic animal skins and the edges are painted in colorful tribal style motifs. Since this new dresser will have daily use of teenage paraphernalia, it also has a protective custom cut glass top.

Faux painting can also preserve childhood memories. This “new headboard architecture” painted in distressed and crackled metallics was originally a door mantle in the client's childhood home.
