A Day at the Beach

It’s fun for kids to go to the beach! Sandcastles, shell collecting, splashing through sparkling water. Their full cheeks flush a healthy -glow and their hair gets kissed with sunny golden highlights. If you grew up in southwest Florida or visited your grandparents living here, the beach is some of the best parts of your childhood. In an expanding mural project in Naples, I painted another privacy wall on a lanai. And this one specifically focuses on the homeowner’s three grandchildren and their Cairn Terrier during a beach excursion. After spending the day kick boarding, the grandchildren posed for the camera. The challenge for painting the mural is that the photo shows the kids squinting in the bright sunlight. Fortunately, these beloved munchkins live just up the road from their grandparents. I met them in person to get a good look at their eyes in order to paint them into the mural. The end result is adorable:

Eric and the Magical Electric Guitar

Music is magic. The creation of sounds, beats, tones, and tunes cast a spell on the listener. Music evokes emotions of memories past or conjures up new emotions ready to burst from our very soul. I’ve always been in awe of those with God blessed musical talent. To me they’re like wizards waving a wand. So, I was super excited when Wild About Popcorn decided to have an all time great, possibly the greatest electric guitarist, Eric Clapton painted on their wall at the Ft Myers location.

Downtown Ft Myers features Music Walk Night every third Friday of the month. Thanks to Covid, that event has been derailed most of the year. But word on the street, literally, is that it will resume this November. And Eric Clapton is ready! He’s featured along their musical tribute wall. You can see him bright, bold and colorful even from outside. Of course, you’ll want to go inside and have your photo taken next to him while you enjoy popcorn, ice cream, and perhaps a little wine. (Yes, they do occasionally have wine and popcorn pairings!)

Wild About Popcorn in downtown Ft Myers is located at 1512 Hendry St. Just follow your nose. They’re already open for business. So with or without Music Walk Night, you can enjoy their magical popcorn creations and the tribute to Eric Clapton and his magical electric guitar.

Sophisticated Luxury

Coastal Cottage Faux Finish

Nothing beats a day at the beach! Even if that day has to be spent indoors. Might as well bring the outdoors into the Indoors with some fabulous fun “beachy” feel furnishings. You don’t even have to buy new furniture. Re- purposing your own furniture pieces is both economical and adds to the whimsy of creating a coastal oasis.

For this home’s interior, which is literally mere steps away from our gorgeous gulf coast shoreline, the owner’s wood hutch is transformed to bring the feel of blue skies and salty air indoors.

A light sanding removes the clear coat off the existing finish. A primer assures the grip of the new color ( I usually use Bulls Eye 1-2-3 ) The home’s door had been painted with SW6811 Honorable Blue. To keep consistency, the same color was applied to the hutch. Next, 2 coats of white wash were applied.

Then for a time and weather beaten feel, a little more sanding was done along the edges and corners.

The piece will be used frequently and since our air done here in sunny southwest Florida is humid, a hard clear coat was a must. In this case, I used CV500 UV Urethane Dull.
