Sculpted Wall Finish
Looking for a modern
artistic look for a focal wall? Consider a sculpted finish. These undulating 3D
lines were created for the main living area of a fun modern home:
Here’s how it was
done:
Step 1:
The design is first built
by giving the wall a surface for the plaster to be placed on. I used newsprint
and glue. (Of course, make sure the wall is a clean surface to work on). Since
this wall has a walkway on either side, I kept the dimension of the papier mache
fairly shallow. Allow the sculpting to completely dry overnight.
Step 2:
Spread on plaster of Paris
or wall spackling. Be sure to completely cover the papier mache. Not too thick
since you don’t want it to crack. I spread it out a little past on all sides. All
the surface to completely dry. I let it dry overnight just to be sure.
Step 3:
If any fine cracks
appear, fill them in with lightweight wall mud. Let dry. Use a sanding bar to
smooth out the edges of the plaster to the flat wall finish.
Step 4:
Paint the entire wall
with your selecting color. On this wall I used SW7005 Pure White in a semi-gloss
finish. Once the wall is completely painted, go back and paint the underside of the sculpted sections with a
color a few shades deeper to create an illusion of deeper dimension. On this
wall I used SW7653 Silver Pointe.
The finished look is
artistic, fun, and modern:
