Before & After: A new look for a damaged sculpted table base. The damage has been repaired and the silver finish changed to a gold finish with an antique accent:
Faux Wood Grain on
set of 3 Garage Doors.
Curb appeal makes an
impact and can definitely affect the value of any home. One fabulous way to
create an eye catching look is to have your garage doors finished in a gorgeous
wood grain.
Here the look is
created in Cabin Plank as the base, Black Raisin as the second layer glaze, and
Black Raisin mixed with Black as its third layer. Of course, the first step is
prime. For these set of doors I used the very trusty Bulls Eye 1-2-3.
Two things to keep in
mind for a successful finish : Any old and chipping paint must be removed
first. Second, during the painting process I recommend activating the doors up
and down so as to avoid the edges of sealing to the weather stripping.

Have Kitchen, Will
Travel
For those who have a
wander lust need that must be fulfilled, a mural is a great way to bring those
memories back home as you rest and gear up for your next adventure. Whether your
excursions are frequent or once in a lifetime, keeping your travels of far away
places brings joy and serenity into your home.
Recently, I had the
pleasure of meeting a new client who travels quite often. The homeowner
requested their SW Florida Base home to become both a representation of their travels,
as well as, making the wall spaces become a gallery of art.
The first of several
murals was created in the kitchen. The glorious blank wall space of above the
kitchen cabinets become the perfect spot for the tranquil scene of sky and
water with the majestic Hawaiian mountains in the background. And, of course,
you have to enjoy the scenery on a catamaran!

A Ten- Year Refresh
A very common question
customers ask when having an outdoor mural scene painted is “ How long will it
last”? Of course, the answer varies based on weather conditions and exposure
but it’s reasonable to assume around 7 years. Recently I was contacted by a
customer from 10 years ago that they were ready for a refresh. It was great to
see that the paints had held up so well. It would have lasted longer except
that in the process of having their whole exterior painted after the hurricane,
the house paint got onto the mural and the
house painter attempted to “blend “ it in. Let’s just say that didn’t
work. Thus, they called me to refresh and add in some new features.
They’re now all set for another 7 to 10 years:
Here’s a comparison
of the original to the new refreshed version :

Have a Seat
One of SW Florida’s favorite past times is kicking back and relaxing on the beach. Hearing the sound of the waves gently approach the shore as sunbeams glisten across the water revives the soul. On this day of rest and relaxation here are some excerpts from mural artwork celebrating the best “seat” on the beach:

Fighting Flames,
Saving Lives
One the most heroic
and community serving professions is the fire department. A firefighter’s
entire life is wrapped around the protection of the city, county, and state (
sometimes beyond ) where they live. We owe a debt of gratitude for what they
are willing to do every day to keep us safe.
As part of the “Front Liners” mural collage honoring the military, first responders, and teachers there is of course a section for our amazing fire fighters. This one is located at Love Boat Ice Cream at 1523 NE Pine Island Rd Cape Coral, Fl.:
At the Love Boat Ice
Cream located on downtown Ft Myers at 1512 Hendry St Ft Myers, Fl.:

The ABCs and the 123s
The importance of
education cannot be over emphasized. We are blessed to live in a nation that
believes in education for every person regardless of skin color, nationality,
gender, or religion. Hard to believe that there was a time when little girls
weren’t attending schools. Or that there was a time when people weren’t allowed
to learn to read based on their skin color. Although there is current turmoil
and debate in our education system, “we’ve come a long way , baby”. I’ve been
blessed to paint mural works throughout many of our Lee County schools.
Recently though I was tasked with showing support for our local educators in
murals outside the school walls. A local ice cream shop, Love Boat Ice Cream,
asked me to create a series of “Front-Liners” murals. Meaning those on the front-line
including military, first responders, and educators. Here is the latest section
representing our incredible teachers and instructors:

Honoring those Who
Protect and Serve
A few weeks ago, I
posted a mural tribute to the brave men and women in our U.S. military. The
overall mural itself has two sides. The first portion is dedicated to our
military, the second portion is dedicated to those that serve on the front line
here at home; law enforcement, firefighters, healthcare , and education. Today’s
focus is on law enforcement.
For the Love Boat Ice Cream location in Cape Coral, Florida located at 1523 NE Pine Island Road, the law enforcement portion includes the badge number of a family member of a prior owner :
The Love Boat Ice
Cream located in downtown FT Myers at 1512 Hendry Street includes the badge
number of fallen officer Adam Jobbers Miller:
For their location at
7977 Dani Drive both the police department and sheriff’s department are
represented in the mural:
In upcoming articles,
I’ll post the other area of the murals. For today, I just want to thank our brave men and women
who protect and serve our glorious piece of paradise here in SW Florida.

Dachshund Beach at Sunset
The glory of the
setting sun is one of the most captivating aspects of living in Southwest
Florida. The sky in all its majesty literally glows most every evening in
brilliant oranges, yellows, various shades of blue, and almost indescribable violets.
It is both awe striking and humbling. The sky can be so dazzling that drivers
pull over on their commute home just to gawk into the Heaven above. It was
exciting to be commissioned to paint a beach scene with the sky lit as sunset.
But then came the added request of painting in the homeowner’s miniature
dachshund into the scene. Oh, my gracious, what a sweet little puppy. Bonnie is just barely a year and a half old and full of wiggles and puppy kisses. Which made
having her sit for posing – um, interesting, let’s say. A few photo snaps were
managed enough to have something to work by. It was a great way to start this
year’s mural series.
