Painted Foliage- No Watering

SW Florida is lush with tropical plants and trees. Often times these gorgeous fronds are placed in pots on lanais. Caring for sultry vegetation isn’t always easy. (Gotta admit I personally don’t have a green thumb) There is an easier way to have your personal surroundings just as luxurious and decadent without the never-ending care of watering, clipping, fertilizing, and spraying insecticides. A way in which the pots will never leave unsightly ring marks on your lanai. Have the plants painted on.

This tropical plant will always stay luscious, and its “ceramic pot” will always be pristine:

Jazz Baby

 Jazz Baby

Americans are enamored with the Jazz Era, the years between 1920-1930 when jazz music and dance took popularity. The Jazz Age was an overlap of economic boom and prohibition. The radio was introduced worldwide- thank you Guglielmo Marconi. Women’s lives took a major turn. World War 1 had shown them independence as they joined the work force. They were freer and becoming equal to their male counterparts.

Jazz Baby is a portrait of woman reminiscent of the jazz era. The orchid represents a woman becoming and realizing her equality to men. The Lily and Canna Lily represent her innocence and gaining confidence to her evolving new life.

The original drawing is on parchment in colored pencil.

A Tv Room with a View

The beach is one of the most coveted views here in SW Florida. But the truth is not all homes have a beachside view. For homes owners dreaming of their own beach front property while anywhere else the solution is simple, a beach mural. And there are plenty of advantages. You don’t have to deal with sand trapsing in, the weather is always perfect, and the palm trees never need pruning. The wall becomes a gorgeous central feature, and the neighbors will be envious.

You can almost hear the sounds of gentle waves and the call of the birds. A very relaxing way to view television:

2nd Mural dedicated to our "Front-Liners"

Front Liners Mural-Part 2

The second Front Liners Mural was completed a few days before Hurricane Ian decided to destroy SW Florida. The devastation in the area is incomprehensible. The outer barrier islands and Ft Myers Beach were leveled almost to the point of permanently being unable to be inhabited. The resilience and determination to rebuild is inspiring. Our islands usually bear the brunt of any storm we receive in the area. However, this hurricane extended its grasp and storm surge into the downtown FT Myers area and right into the buildings near the second mural. Flood waters rose so high many have what’s considered a complete loss. Miraculously, Love Boat Ice Cream barely had any damage, and the mural was unaffected! How appropriate that as they reopen the downtown shop the mural celebrates our first responders, military, and yes, our teachers.

This Frontt Liners Mural space is above the counter tops where patrons can enjoy their ice cream. The mural received a clear coat for protection from enthusiastic ice cream lovers:

As in the previous First Liners mural, each military branch and first responders have their own icon. Here’s close-up look at each:

Recently we lost an officer in the line of duty who happens to have a personal connection to the staff at Love Boat Ice Cream. In his honor, his badge number is painted onto the Ft Myer Police badge.

The first mural has an apple and pencil to represent teachers. This time teachers are represented by hands holding open a book as letters, numbers, and math icons float above:

There will be a 3^rd mural in this series that will be located in Cape Coral. After the category 5 hurricane pummeled SW Florida we realized that in the stream of Front Liners that were very much needed there are 2 others to consider. Those would be the linemen who came in from every state to assist us getting reconnected and our wonderful grocery chain Publix who brought in a convey to help feed the barrier islands.

 Mural Dedicated to Our “Front-liners”

SW Florida embraces, celebrates, and assists our military veterans. We owe a deep gratitude to the men and women who serve the American people, defend the nation, protect vital national interests, and fulfill national military responsibilities. Here in Florida, we have always felt the same way to those men and women who protect us within our borders; our first responders. When the infamous attack on 9-11 happened it was our Nation’s first responders who ran bravely into the towers. From that moment on our internal heroes became an extension of our heroes abroad. And then… 2020 happened. Once again life as we knew it changed. Suddenly, it wasn’t just the EMTs at the front line. Now every physician and nurse were working overtime to battle an invisible enemy that threatened our nation and the world. The role of doctor or nurse previously placed in the background of our battles was suddenly thrust to the forefront. As the entire country remained indoors to help flatten the curve, another spotlight was beamed onto another unsuspecting hero. That hero was role of teacher. Parents had to become teachers and Zoom aficionados in order for their children’s education to continue. The zoom classes opened the eyes of the nation as to what was actually being taught in the classrooms. That battle is still ensuing as each city and state realizes the importance of focusing on the content that is taught in schools. It’s not that we didn’t care before, we just weren’t paying attention. And all eyes are now on the teachers as they maneuver their way through the bureaucracy above them, the child in front of them, and the future ahead of us all.

To celebrate these endearing heroes, I was commissioned to create murals that embraces them all. The first of these murals is now complete. 

This mural is painted at Love Boat Ice Cream located 7977 Dani Dr Ft Myers, Fl

A red ribbon twines in and out across each icon. The left side is painted with emblems to represent each military branch:

Connecting the left side and right side is an American flag style ribbon:

The right features icon images representing first responders, as well as teachers:

Under the images is painted the text:

“Dedicated To The Men & Women Who Serve Our Country, Especially Those Who Have made The Ultimate Sacrifice”

The mural starts at 9 ft. off the floor and graces just under the flags that are hung throughout the space. It’s painted with acrylic and latex paints.

The next Front-Liners mural is in progress at Love Boat ice Cream in their downtown Ft Myers Location.

Jump!

Jump!

Ever jump out of a plane? I have. It is a wondrous experience. Surprisingly freeing and peaceful, at least once the parachute opens. Before the parachute opening it’s a major rush of adrenalin and noise. I’m glad I did it just to experience it. Check that off the bucket list. You can the freedom flying feeling at Astrodurance Bungee Fitness. In a series of buoyancy flying bungee themed murals, one of the room sections gives you the illusion of flying through the air. With a bungee securely harnessed on, just lift your feet off the ground and you’re soaring through the sky! Take a look:

The central character in the mural is life-size and appears to have jumped from a plane via a bungee cord with a banner bearing the company name:

Pulling back to look at the whole scene, the wall and floor are painted with the illusion of being broken away to reveal as if the whole space is up in the clouds :

You seem to be under the airplane as it passes over you:

One of the owners has a fondness for SR 71 jets:

As you soar on your bungee, you'll see below you a group of skydivers forming a circle and holding a sign with the company's name:

Below you there is also a hot air balloon: 

Off in the distance is a space launch:

Because of their great love for our wonderful country, the owner's requested a tribute to America in the mural. And since we're in the air it only seemed logical that the American Eagle and American flag soar along with you:
