Kitchen Cabinetry Updated

Kitchen Cabinetry Updated

As the whole world spends more time at home whether its because of a global pandemic or a modern shift to working from home, your home’s interiors are more important than ever. Home has always been our sanctuary., Now our homes multi-purpose as a home, a work office, class- room, back drop for virtual meetings, church sanctuary, and restaurant bar & grill.  In center of it all is the kitchen. Updating kitchen cabinetry was popular in 2019. In 2020 it’s even more popular.  I had the pleasure a few years back of creating sculpted faux finishes and sparkle faux finishes in a client’s home. This year the goal was to upgrade the kitchen. The center island was changed out for a modern profile along with a beautiful modern cabinetry finish. The new finish was white with an ever so subtle linen stria stripe. Rather than change out every bit of cabinetry, the balance of the extremely dark kitchen cabinetry was faux painted. Now the whole central area is light and bright.

The new faux finish is a gorgeous contrast against the home’s dark floors

The Doorway to tropical Time

The Doorway to Tropical Time

The SW Florida is the life everyone craves. It’s always sunny and balmy. It’s active and fun without being over the top. It’s relaxed and comfortable with a hint of refinement. So are our interiors. Well, in this case, interior/exterior. I’m currently working on a home being transformed away from the trendy ultra- modern look and embracing a Tommy Bahama feel. The first project was a new front door. The paint request was to style after the Plantation Brown look of the furniture. The result is breath taking.

Even the handles are faux finished in an oil rubbed bronze look:

When the doors begin, after priming they are given a coat best described as orange juice:

Several coats of glazes are painted on as well as graining until the rich tone is achieved:

The look continues onto the interior side:

The final step is a clear hard coat. All paints, glazes, and clear coats are created to endure the elements.

There's loads more to come on this project. So stay tuned.

An Octopus Blue Sky

An Octopus Blue Sky

I’m often hired to paint beach scenes on lanai walls. For one recent scene they home- owner had requested the sky and water incorporate shades of blue that coordinated with artwork inside the home of a blue octopus. That was a first. But how appropriate is the timing in light of what just transpired this week in Israel with the blue jellyfish. If you haven’t seen the video, the link is posted below.

Beyond the blue shades for sky and sea, there were other special requests. A walk path and fence line, fun unexpected things, space for the upcoming landscape, and to feature their grandchildren. The end result is precious and unique. The home’s lanai has a neighborhood trail behind it and the hikers and bicyclists enjoyed watching the mural come to life.

A closer look at the details:

For fun, a parasailer :

A quaint beach wood fence:

Grand-daughters build a sandcastle:

Of course, you always need salboats:

A boardwalk:

Dolphins playing:

The image of the grandson & pelican is from a photo of him on a beach
when a pelican had come up to him in curiosity. The starfish is for another flick of blue.

The landscape and lighting were installed after the mural was complete. Here's a look at the scene at night:
